THE ENGINE
An Evolving Algorithm. An Evidence-Driven Approach.
Lost Atlas Engine is being developed around a purpose-built investigative algorithm that combines geographic analysis, historical research, structured data, statistical modeling, and artificial intelligence to examine unresolved missing-person cases.
At its core, the Engine is designed to evaluate competing explanations for a disappearance through six analytical categories: Timeline, Geographic, Behavioral, Opportunity, Motive Compatibility, and Evidence Reliability. Using weighted analysis, the Engine aims to assess what may have happened, where a missing person may be located, and which investigative directions deserve further attention.
As the methodology develops, the goal is to produce evidence-based probability estimates that compare possible scenarios and geographic areas. Initial percentage-based scores will be treated as experimental measures of compatibility until the models have been sufficiently tested and calibrated against historical and resolved cases.
The primary objective is to help locate missing individuals and better understand the circumstances of their disappearance—not to presume criminal involvement or identify someone responsible.
Throughout that evolution, source reliability, transparency, and human oversight will remain fundamental. Every analytical finding should be traceable to supporting evidence, with uncertainty and limitations clearly documented.
The technology will evolve. The algorithm will improve. The evidence will remain the foundation.
